Wyoming Board of Dental Examiners
Clinical Examinations
At their February 16, 2023 Board meeting, the Board of Dental Examiners voted to adopt their proposed rules amendments which, if passed, would allow acceptance of the simulated patient (manikin) examinations. Staff will compile the public comment and submit the rules package to the Governor's Office for the Governor's consideration. By law staff must do so within 10 days. Once submitted, the Governor has 75 days to consider the rules. If the Governor were to grant his approval, the rules changes could be effective by mid-May.
If the Rules are approved, applicants applying after the rules changes become effective can document completion of a patient based OR simulated patient (manikin) clinical exam that meets the requirements in the Board's rules*. Most applicants in our section of the U.S. complete either the CDCA-WREB-CITA or the CRDTS clinical examinations.
If the Rules are approved, applicants applying before the rules changes become effective must document completion of a patient based only clinical exam that meets the requirements in the Board's rules*.
*Dentists, please remember there are other requirements for the examination outlined in Board Rules. Regional clinical exams for dentists must still indicate competency in:
Endodontics, including access opening of a posterior tooth and access, canal instrumentation and obturation of an anterior tooth;
Fixed Prosthodontics, a full crown procedure and a separate bridge with two (2) abutment preparations.
Periodontics, including scaling on a patient or non-patient (manikin) in a clinical setting; and
Restorative Dentistry, including a class II amalgam or composite preparation and restoration and a class III composite preparation and restoration on a patient or non-patient (manikin) in a clinical setting. Slot preps shall not be accepted.

Wyoming may accept SRTA, however applicants who have completed this examination are less common as SRTA does not offer testing in the western United States.
